Localization of Datacard's ID Works® Identity Software
by Yves Lang, VP Sales/Marketing, ENLASO Corporation

Recent global events have heightened a need for more secure personal identification systems. Verifying an individual's identity and providing access to any physical or virtual location is a technological challenge to any organization participating in a global environment. Fundamentally, a secure identification system must be designed to address government and business policy issues while remaining usable for end users at all organizational levels and geographic locales.

Minnesota-based Datacard Group has been strengthening the confidence of security programs worldwide for over 30 years with the industry's broadest and best-selling portfolio of fully integrated ID systems, software, card printers and accessories. Supporting the exponentially sophisticated security needs of multinational organizations including financial institutions, government agencies, healthcare providers, schools and telecommunication leaders, Datacard provides solutions capable of being implemented at every physical and virtual level of potential security threat-regardless of geographic locale.

In August of 2003, Datacard released a new version of its flagship identity software, ID Works® v4.1 into six languages: French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, and English. This undertaking involved the software localization expertise and resources of ENLASO, and its dedicated Software Localization Center. ENLASO was also enlisted to simultaneously localize the software's online help files, and various user manuals. Working with Datacard's inspiring professionals, ENLASO provided an enterprise localization solution comprised of accomplished language experts and proprietary language technologies.

As a complement to Datacard's international strategy, ENLASO delivered cost-savings and quality through a translation memory strategy that supported both the effectiveness and efficiency of all Datacard localization efforts. Implementing proprietary language technologies including ENLASO's Rainbow®, Album®, and Horizon®, not only increased leveraging of 100% matches, but also empowered the assigned linguistic specialists to exclusively translate new words and fuzzy matches-engineering substantial savings for Datacard.

ENLASO enlisted a dedicated team that had experience in localizing software product releases of similar project scope. The dedicated ID Works v.4.1 localization team included experienced in-country linguists, expert localization engineers, flexible project managers, multilingual desktop publishers, and most importantly, Datacard's own professionals. ENLASO incorporated a detailed and documented ISO 9001 certified process at every project level, including the translation, engineering, testing, desktop publishing, and project management.

Datacard was successful in developing localized versions of ID Works® v.4.1 and ENLASO is pleased to be a part of that success. ENLASO delivered localized versions of ID Works® v.4.1 and all corresponding online help files and documentations into French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese ahead of the aggressive project budgets and schedules. Using a formula of experienced language professionals and technologies, ENLASO delivered industry leading enterprise language solutions.
