Training Services

Quality training is critical to our goal of making you become self-sufficient in the creation of localization ready documentation. Since ENLASO continually develops improved processes to reduce localization costs, we are able to pass our knowledge on to ensure that you have mastered these techniques. Please bookmark this page to check it from time to time, as new courses will periodically be posted here.

Our training covers common tasks, like publishing and content creation, but also encompasses engineering and project management. We can:

  • train your authors to produce content that is more easily localized,
  • train your engineers on better engineering process control, and
  • train your project managers to effectively manage your localization needs.

ENLASO periodically offers concise, two-hour training sessions on relevant topics for a modest enrollment fee. The following courses can help increase your skill sets to achieve more effective results:

  • Internationalization Best Practices: The best time to prepare for localizing your software or web site content is before the code or content is written. This course covers everything from the amount of "real estate" you should leave in your graphical user interface for text expansion to encoding issues and best practices with configuration management. [Click here to learn more about this class]

  • Preparing Legacy files for conversion to FrameMaker: Many customers have projects that have grown beyond the capabilities of their desktop publishing software. Learn when FrameMaker is right for your documentation projects, and how to economically convert your content into FrameMaker files. Embedded objects, like equations and graphics, and challenging table structures are covered. Techniques are taught to properly preserve hypertext links and hidden comments. General guidelines for the ideal FrameMaker template are also covered. [Click here to learn more about this class]

  • Converting from basic FrameMaker to structured FrameMaker: This course covers how to convert existing basic FrameMaker files into structured FrameMaker documents that will generate correct XML structure. Learn the fundamentals of the EDD (Element Definition Document), DTD (Document Type Definitions), Conversion Tables, and Read/Write Rules. Preferred guidelines for controlling context-sensitive formatting through EDD format rules are also covered.

  • Managing fonts and PDF files in non-western languages: Learn the fundamentals of using combination fonts for Asian languages. Various disparities in character encoding for western and eastern European languages are also discussed. Learn how to effectively control fonts in PDF files. Issues involving conflicts in keyboard layouts between PC and MAC in Russian and other languages are also covered.

Customer-specific training

ENLASO develops and delivers training courses specific to your needs. For instance, if you have a group of tech-writers who are migrating from Word or InDesign to FrameMaker, we can develop a course around your templates and workload that covers only those product features that are relevant to your workload. Actual hands-on training works with your documents and templates to ensure that all training is relevant. Such training can be delivered remotely via WebEx or on-site.

Training in Project Management

Most clients have "home grown" processes for managing localization projects internally. ENLASO has cataloged a series of best practices for localization projects that you can implement to ensure project success. Training in project management includes how to forecast your localization budget, how to prepare project components for delivery to your LSP (Language Service Provider), and how to monitor your project during the localization process. Training is also available to more effectively manage your in-country review and validation processes.

Engineering Localization

Many times, clients have engineers and developers who need basic or intermediate training in localization processes in order to better create source code or web site applications. ENLASO offers training in this area to empower you to provide optimized code, strings, or web site content that avoids common pitfalls. Best practices for localization-friendly string storage and delivery is also covered.

Engineering training is also offered on-site in a one-on-one environment for strategic, large scale projects.

On-demand Training

At your request, ENLASO will customize existing training courses to meet your specific project or production situation. Customized training is relatively economical because ENLASO has a large library of training modules to draw from. Such training includes documentation and a recording of audio/visual content if the course is delivered via WebEx.
