Release 5 of the Okapi Localization Tools Made Available by ENLASO

BOULDER, CO - FEBRUARY 3, 2006 - ENLASO Corp., a provider of translation and localization solutions, recently ported its localization tools to the open source Okapi Framework and announced today release 5 of the Okapi tools. The Okapi tools suite, which includes Rainbow and Olifant, as well as other components, can be downloaded free-of-charge at http://okapi.sourceforge.net/downloads.html.

"Among other changes, release 5 of the Okapi tools comes with a new script filter which is designed to handle just about any type of text-based file format where text can be isolated using regular expressions. It also includes a new version of Rainbow, the utility launcher application familiar to all the Okapi or ENLASO tools, as well as improved methods to merge automatically XLIFF translated documents back into their original format," said Yves Savourel, ENLASO's Localization Solutions Architect. Savourel also notes that more filters, utilities, and improvements to the existing code will continue on in further releases.

The Okapi Framework aims at helping localization-related applications to thrive in an environment where they can interact and where users can choose the most appropriate tool for the task at hand. The ultimate goal is to adopt the industry standards when they are defined and useable. The project is hosted at SourceForge.net (http://okapi.sourceforge.net), a repository of open source applications, and anyone is welcome to join and offer contributions.

Yves Lang, ENLASO's Chief Sales Officer, adds, "This ongoing initiative will allow developers, as well as users, to benefit from a common set of components to implement localization processes more easily. They will be able to integrate tools, filters, and utilities already tested by their peers in their own solutions. The framework is also geared to utilize open standards, such as TMX or XLIFF, and will hopefully help to spread their use across the industry."
